Privacy policy

Last updated: October 2026.

1. Who is responsible

The data controller is Vincent Diaz, a private individual — Toulouse, France. For any question or to exercise your rights: hello@nearest.fr.

2. What we keep

Only what a pet health record needs:

We ask for no name, no postal address, no phone number, and no access to your contacts or photo library. A photo is only uploaded if you pick it.

3. What we do not do

4. Usage measurement

To know whether the application works and where it resists us, we keep anonymous counters: openings, screens visited, key actions (an animal created, a weighing, a photo), technical errors. Those counters carry a number drawn at random on your device — no email address, no identifier, no IP address — and serve to count distinct people without identifying them.

If — and only if — your device agrees to tell us where it is, we keep the resolved place (country, region, city) so we know on which territories our information must be right. Never the position, never a journey, never a location history.

None of this is sold, linked to a profile or given to a third party: those counters live on our server. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running the service. You may object by writing to us.

5. Why we process it

6. How long

Your data is kept while your account is active. When you delete your account, it is closed immediately and you have thirty days to come back; beyond that, everything is permanently erased (animals, care, weighings, appointments, photos, shares).

The host's technical logs are kept for fourteen days. Encrypted backups, meant to prevent loss, are overwritten within thirty days at the latest. The anonymous usage counters are erased after three hundred and sixty days.

7. Where your data is

With our host OVH SAS (2 rue Kellermann, 59100 Roubaix, France). The servers hosting Truffe are in Montreal (Quebec, Canada): your data is therefore transferred outside the European Union.

That transfer is covered by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses and by technical measures: encryption in transit (HTTPS) and encryption of the database at rest. Emails (recovery codes, invitations) go through OVH's sending service.

8. How we protect it

Encrypted database, passwords hashed with a deliberately slow algorithm, HTTPS connections, a second factor offered to everyone, restricted and separated server access, encrypted backups, security updates followed. No system is perfect: if an incident affected your data, we would tell you and notify the CNIL within the required deadlines.

9. Your rights

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, object and port your data. In the application, Settings → Data management lets you export your data as a readable file and delete your account. In writing: hello@nearest.fr — we answer within one month.

If our answer does not satisfy you, you can contact the French CNIL (3 place de Fontenoy, 75007 Paris).

10. Minors

Truffe is not intended for children. In France, an account cannot be opened alone before 15; between 15 and 18, a parent's consent is required.

11. Changes

This policy may change with the application. The update date is at the top of the page; any important change will be signalled in the application.
